Carbon tools

We’ve developed a comprehensive suite of carbon tools which are designed to help organisations make decisions on how to reduce embodied and operational carbon and to influence designs to achieve this. The tools, outlined below fall into two categories: generic tools and market-specific tools.

Our tools reflect the full breadth and depth of our multidisciplinary capabilities from transport to buildings, masterplanning to energy management, and from high level options and trade-offs to detailed design.

These tools are now being shared with the industry to encourage greater collaboration with governments, clients and professional institutions and to help stimulate development and knowledge on the carbon agenda.

Generic tools

Knowledgebase_toolCarbon Critical Knowledgebase – A next-generation carbon calculation and reporting tool that can be used as an accounting tool and as an optioneering tool.
Roadmap_toolCarbon Critical Roadmap – A web-based tool to help express business activities in terms of carbon.
Relativity_toolCarbon Critical Relativity – A tool that presents a graphical overview of the link between carbon determinants and the carbon they produce or save.

Market-specific tools

Masterplanning_toolMaster Planning Tool – Aimed at systematic identifaction and quantification of the carbon impacts of development masterplans.
ART_toolAtkins Remote Technology (ArT) – ArT is an innovative, web-based energy management system.
Buildings_toolCarbon Critical BuildingsTools – Three tools related to carbon critical building design: ‘C-rating’, ‘Tool for the Tools’ and ‘Carbon Curves’.
Travel_Behaviours_toolCarbon Critical Travel Behaviours – A collection of tools to help encourage the use of low-carbon transport options.
Traffic_Analysis_toolCarbon Critical Traffic Analysis – A tool which turns collected traffic data into estimates of carbon emissions.
