Our approach & priorities
Atkins is committed to being a good neighbour and a respected corporate citizen. We aspire to lead the corporate responsibility (CR) agenda in the built and natural environment and we are taking practical steps to make sure we practice what we preach.
Our CR strategy impacts on many levels:
- as an employer;
- in our operations;
- through our client services;
- with wider stakeholder groups such as local communities, suppliers and shareholders.
We take a proactive approach to ensure that our businesses and local offices work to the same CR standards, wherever they are in the world.
We also encourage our partners, including clients and suppliers, to demonstrate through their actions that they share our CR values and we work with them to share our knowledge and understanding.
As a result of these efforts, our rating in the UK’s top 100 Business in the Community (BITC) index rose from 77.5 per cent to 83.5 per cent in 2006.
The corporate responsibility issues that are most significant for our business and related areas of focus are:
- our people - embracing diversity and attracting and retaining the best talent
- health and safety – taking a lead
- environment - managing impact and driving sustainable development
- community – being a good neighbour and sharing our expertise
- our partners – promoting our CR values
CR ownership
Our Chief Executive, Keith Clarke, is the Board member responsible for CR and for the Group’s performance.
Our director of QSE (quality, health and safety and environment), who reports to the Chief Executive, is responsible for QSE at a corporate level. In addition, each Atkins business segment has dedicated QSE representatives to manage issues at a local level and report quarterly.
