Atkins wins Qalhat LNG project in Oman - 26 March 2008
Multidisciplinary engineering and design consultant, Atkins has been commissioned by Oman company, Qalhat LNG to undertake the design and construction supervision of its new corporate headquarters located at Ghala, Bausher.
Qalhat LNG is a leading supplier of liquefied natural gas generation and distribution services and the project will provide Atkins with an opportunity to develop a world leading headquarters facility for the company in a fresh new design.
Located within easy reach of Muscat International Airport, the building will consolidate the existing corporate operations enabling all staff to be housed in a purpose built facility, which has a strong empathy with the Qalhat LNG brand and symbolises their mission to be the best in the business.
The 7,500 m² building will be a modern, low maintenance, user-friendly facility, incorporating mixed use development functions. The site layout plans enable the interaction of various departments, space planning, break out areas, car parking requirements and landscaping.
The architectural concept focuses on creating a percentage of redundant space within each building to permit staff relocations and expansion with minimum disruption.
Commented Sarah Phillips, Atkins’ Operation Manager in Oman, “The Atkins design team has drawn upon its global and local expertise to provide Qalhat LNG with a new HQ building that we believe is at the leading edge of architectural design in Oman. It is a modern building with subtle flavours and accents taken from more traditional local design. It has been designed to stand out whilst also complementing the traditional environment.”
